History of All India Devangar (Telugu) Samooga Nala Sangam

The All India Devangar (Telugu) Samooga Nala Sangam is a prominent community-based organization representing the Devangar community of Telugu-speaking people. The Devangar community, traditionally associated with weaving and textile production, has a rich cultural heritage and history, particularly in South India, where it has contributed significantly to the economic and social fabric of the region

Early Foundations

The Devangar community, known for its expertise in weaving, historically found its identity linked to the textile trade, especially in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. As the Devangar population spread across regions, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the need for an organization to represent the interests of Telugu-speaking Devangars became more pressing.

The All India Devangar (Telugu) Samooga Nala Sangam was formed in the early 20th century, driven by the vision to unify the Telugu-speaking Devangar people under one umbrella and address their social, cultural, and economic needs. The term “Samooga Nala Sangam” in Tamil translates to “Social Welfare Association,” indicating the organization’s commitment to promoting the well-being of the community.
